Getting ready for Athfest... Cine style!

So I am currently helping to promote/prepare for Cine's Rock Docs series, a music documentary series in association with Athfest 09.  So far I have written 4 press releases and created a poster.  As I work more on the promotions, I can't help but get excited myself for all the events.

I have never even been to Athfest, but from what I hear it's awesome.  And the films Cine is showing just seem so cool.  The one I can't wait to see is called Rip! A Remix Manifesto.  The film's protagonist is Girl Talk, and as I was working on the poster I had no idea who girl talk was.  I asked my trusty boyfriend, and he opened my eyes to the coolness that is Girl Talk.  He is this geeky-looking guy who mashes up music into the sweetest mixes ever.  Youtube it.

Another film I think sounds really cool is called The Wrecking Crew.  The film chronicles a group of studio musicians who collectively recorded more number one singles than Elvis and The Beatles combined.  Cool right?!  And the group is basically unknown outside of the music community.  I am really interested in seeing exactly who this group was and what they did.

One of the bigger events is a screening of Please Call Home: The Big House Years.  It is a film about the Allman Brother's rise to fame, their family, and their house in Macon.  The showing starts at 8, but before it there is a silent auction and catered reception.  Catered, eh? I like the sound of that!

Many of the films, including The Wrecking Crew will have special guest filmmakers and musicians for introductions, Q&As, and performances.  Check out athenscine.com for information of all the films as well as for showtimes, price of admissions, and dates.

Welcome to Athens' movie theater and art house!

Welcome!  I (Jamie) will be your lovely blogger.  I am an intern at Cine this summer, and I have been working with Cine doing team PR work with Creative Consultants, UGA's student-run PR firm, this past year.

Cine is a gem of a place that needs to be discovered, hence the blog.  Describing Cine can be difficult because it is so versatile.  It's Athens' very own art house, movie theater, event space, and full bar.  Cine shows movies ranging from Indie to foreign to Oscar winners like Slumdog and The Reader.  Believe me, there is a movie for everyone here!  And the event space is even harder to define because I'm pretty sure every event imaginable has taken place in the Cinelab.  Wine tasting, rock concerts, poetry readings, trapeze shows, and even weddings have been held.  The opportunites are endless, and part of my job is attracting new clients to the event space.  I'm going to really work hard on bringing in Greek life for events such as date nights and formals.

Cine has created a new event this summer, the Summer Classic Movie Series.  Annie Hall and Chinatown are definitely going to be shown, but we need more suggestions!  E-mail us at info@athenscine.com or comment on this blog entry and let your voice be heard.  Cine is your local movie theater and art house, so you should be the ones deciding what should be shown!
